Jikkie Schelling is a Dutch filmmaker and screenwriter with a great love for the unpredictability of existence. In her work she often toes the line between fiction and reality, constantly creating worlds that resemble ours, but where the mundanity of the everyday is shaken once an unpredictable event occurs. Through unexpected encounters and eleborate escape plans, she offers her characters a way out — and onto a path that leads towards an alternative, happier ending. In this way she manages to always add well-needed colour to narratives that are oftentimes portrayed very black and white.
Jikkie finished her bachelor in Audiovisual Media at the Utrecht School of the Arts with her graduation film FUNNY FEELING (2022). The film received the Fiction Wildcard from the Netherlands Film Fund, was nominated for Best Graduation Production at the 2023 Netherlands Film Festival by the ‘Circle of Dutch Film Journalists’ and earned two nominations for a BUMA Music in Motion Award, winning one of them. After graduating, Jikkie teamed up with production house Keplerfilm to create her debut short film CALL IT FATE (2025), with coaching of Australian screenwriter Rita Kalnejais (BABYTEETH). CALL IT FATE screened in the Debut Competition of the Dutch Filmfestival, and had its international premiere at North-American Indie Festival DANCES WITH FILMS.
In December 2025, Jikkie was selected to be a part of the filmmakers residency Creators Lab in Patagonia, Argentina, under the mentorship of director Paolo Sorrentino. During this lab, she wrote and directed her third short film MÁS ALLÁ, which is currently in post-production.
Additionally, she works as a screenwriter on multiple Dutch TV-Shows, such as Mabel & Margarita, a spin-off of the hitseries Máxima, and La Vida Barcelona, both produced by Millstreet Films and set to be shot in 2026.
